How to provide good customer service

I ordered Guy Kawasaki's new book Reality Check somewhere on 8th Dec, from Flipkart.com, but I haven't received it till date. When I enquired about the same I found that Penguin was planning to launch the book, but they haven't released it yet, and they may launch it next week.

My first reaction when I heard this was that, when you don't have the product in stock, why the hell did you put it on net, or even if you do, inform the customer about the delays ASAP. But I didn't say any of this, as the person on the other end explained his side promptly and assured that they will deliver the book as soon as they get it from Penguin.

Generally in this situation I have seen that, customer service reps try to avoid customers, they just want to hang up as soon as possible, or treat customers as if they're doing a great favor by talking/selling the products to us. This is normal when you speak to telecom customer service reps.

Ideally this is what you should do when you're unable deliver on time: (if you have some more suggestions, please add them in comments)
1. Call up your customer or send them an email and explain your situation, don't make them inquire
2. Assure them that you are going to deliver it and give a date for the same (or) refund the whole amount promptly
3. Never try to run away from the troubled customer, especially if you are a startup/ or a less known service provider.

I'm gonna continue buying from flipkart.com, till the time I get books on lowest possible price of course ;)

Turn Off Slow iPhone Backup

Do u feel irritated when u r in the hurry and syncing ur iPhone takes ages coz of backup.. if u do here's the solution:

For Mac:

Disable
1. Make sure iTunes is not running
2. Enter the following command in Terminal.app (Applications/Utilities)

defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true

3. Open iTunes and connect iPhone

Enable
defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool false

For Windows:

Disable
1. Locate your iTunesPrefs.xml file. It’s usually located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes or C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes.
2. Backup your iTunesPrefs.xml file
3. Open iTunesPrefs.xml using a text-editor
4. Search for a section called User Preferences and paste the following snipped into the User Preferences Section after the first <dict>:

<key>DeviceBackupsDisabled</key>
<data>
dHJ1ZQ==
</data>

5. Save the file and restart iTunes. Backups should now be disabled.

Enable
To enable backups again delete the XML Snippet from iTunesPrefs.xml file.

Too Geeky??

If all this is too geeky for you, then here are the apps to do the same, without any sweat!
